How it all started....

My sister asked me last night, "Nicole, why don't you blog about running?" My response, in my goofy, non-serious mannerism, stated "I don't know." In all seriousness, I had no stinkin clue as to why I wasn't blogging about all the experiences I was encountering as a runner. Mind you, I'm not just any runner, I'm a armature. I've only been running for a little over 2 years, which leads me to a disclosure: If you don't know me and you are just reading this because you are thinking about running and you want to know the harsh truth...I am not a doctor, I am not a professional and I, by no means perfect- so take what I have to say with a grain of salt and go with it.

My journey as a runner started like many other journeys....slow. I started training for a 5k, which then lead to a 10k, which then lead to a half marathon which then lead to a full marathon, which I just recently completed June 26th of 2010. Aside from childbirth, the longest 4 hours and 26 minutes of my entire life. One of the best four hours and twenty six minutes of my entire life....yet, still one of the longest. As painful as it was, it will not be my last, not even close actually.

The Boston Marathon. The largest marathon across the country, so large in fact that for the 2011 race it sold out in less than 8 hours! I believe they have close to 30,000 spots and it sold out in less than 8 hours. Are you kidding me? In order to run the Boston Marathon you have to have a qualifying time. Varies by age group (for the one time in my life I wish I were in my 50's), my qualifying time until I get to 35....THREE HOURS AND FORTY ONE MINUTES! HAHA, yea right...maybe if I jumped on the back of someones golf cart and they drove me through the marathon, or maybe if I was Kenyan?! To say the least I have a lot of work ahead of me and it may take me years to accomplish this goal, but one day it will happen. Shoot, I may be that 80 year old grandma doing the Boston, but one day it will happen. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
